after christmas

On the 26th we got to see Jon and Lindsey -- they were down in Vancouver WA visiting her family for Christmas and they came up to Seattle for a day to see us and some of the people Jon knows from his time here in the area as a missionary a couple years ago. We played a game and had a good time chatting. It was a treat to have visitors, even just for a couple hours!

Speaking of quick visits, our friends Houston and Megan Trueblood were in Seattle the next day and we met up with them for a little bit once Austin was able to get off work (he had a crazy deadline that week which meant lots of extra hours). We're now realizing we didn't get a photo together, but we did stop by the Seattle Public library in our short time together. It's a building known for its bold architecture and use of color.

This is a view from one of the floors out into the city. It's a pretty unique and captivating public space.

One of the floors of the building is painted and lit entirely in red. It feels like something straight out of Star Wars or Star Trek -- kind of disorienting but really visually interesting.

The Saturday after Christmas we were at a park with our friends the Laings and were treated to a great view of Lake Washington. (If you click on the photo to enlarge and look on the right just above the horizon line you'll see some birds -- it was a bald eagle being chased away by several smaller birds.)

Photos like these...

...remind us that we really love living up here. Come visit! :)
