museum of flight

As mentioned in our last post, we tried to do some one-on-one time with the kids while Austin was on parental leave. One morning Evan got to take Daddy to his favorite place in the world -- the Boeing Museum of Flight!

We had to see Evan's favorite airplane first -- the Blackbird! He even got to sit inside a Blackbird cockpit.

We could have spent the entire day here...

...so many airplanes!

Evan was in awe seeing all the airplanes and loved seeing the Blackbird. We had been here fairly recently, both for his birthday in the summer and just five or six weeks prior with Grandma and Grandpa Taylor and Braden, and he still enjoyed it as if he'd never seen any of it before.

We went inside the old 60s-era Air Force One.

Evan loved seeing all the small scale models of World War I/II planes, as well as the bigger ones.

We had lunch at the cafe there, where there's a great view of the Boeing Field runway. We saw small, medium, and even large airplanes take off and land. Evan was pretty mesmerized.

We went over to the newer pavilion where they've got lots of new additions like this B-29 Superfortress.

Evan liked seeing the "bombers" like this B-17 Flying Fortress.

He had been looking through a map from the last time we came and had names of a number of planes from the pavilion memorized already, like the Tomcat (F-14, middle). The newest addition -- the F-18 Hornet (in Blue Angels livery, on the right) -- wasn't here last time we came, so we enjoyed seeing a new fighter jet.

Arguably the centerpiece of the collection in the pavilion is the Concorde. Evan had a great time seeing all the planes and walking through a few of the bigger ones (Concorde, 747, 787). It was a great day for a two-year-old kid and his dad -- who's still a kid at heart when he's around airplanes.

And when it was all said and done, someone ended up with a Blackbird of his own to fly home. :)
