christmas trip, part 2

Brooklyn felt right at home at Grandma and Grandpa Self's house -- and was very excited to see a kitty...

...and fishies!

B loves wearing hats.

One of her favorite toys was a lawn mower that made popping noises.

She was just as excited to see her balloon the next day as she was at Disneyland.

We were excited to spend some time with Grandpa Self!

Brooklyn got an early present from Laura's aunt and uncle -- a fun music DJ toy.

And she got to play with cousins -- Jane...

...and Livia.

Unfortunately this is about the best photo that shows the cute little Christmas sweater dress we got for Brooklyn. She has another sweater vest like it that she wears with jeans that we love so we couldn't resist this one.

Sunday family photo after church (not very successful)...

...and a cousins photo after church (even less successful).

Someone had a tough time sleeping on this trip -- new environments, new teeth coming in, and a bit of a cold -- so she got to sleep in a big bed a lot.

Brooklyn and Jane looked like twins in their jammies!

B loved playing with Grandma and the hats on the snowmen decoration.

We wanted to try something new this year -- we thought it would be fun if each of the Self kids would make a dinner with food from where they or their spouse served a mission. Perry was all set to make an awesome Spanish dish but we had company over that wanted to bring pizza so we settled for Spanish cookies for dessert. Next time!

Brooklyn wasted no time getting into Rockband on the Wii...

...or onto the piano with Mary or whomever would sit down to play.

The little kids and grandkids got to make ice cream cone Christmas trees.

Brooklyn enjoyed putting hers together (with some help from Mom)...

...and tasting it afterwards!

Christmas Eve was Mary and Chase's turn for dinner.

Chase served a mission in Brazil, so it was a traditional cut of steak...

...and the even-more-traditional staple of beans and rice along with mango and salad. It was very good... the photo does not do it justice -- they do say food is the hardest subject to photograph!

Did we mention that Brooklyn loves hats?

Christmas Eve we enjoyed singing traditional carols around the piano.

Brooklyn really liked pointing out all the animals and stars on the felt nativity countdown.

After going out to deliver some "Secret Santa" gifts, it was nice to get warm by the fire.

And we went to bed with dreams of Brazilian flan in our heads -- it was like a mix between cheesecake and a German pancake. Very tasty.
