first half of june stuff

Catching up on our blog again! We went to the zoo the first Saturday in June.

It was a pretty warm day so we were kinda jealous the penguins got to swim.

The zoo trip was technically an end-of-year field trip for Brooklyn and her preschool buddies (that happen to also be her playgroup buddies and church buddies and just all around buddies).

There was one thing at the zoo that Brooklyn wanted to see no matter what. The flamingos. We think it might have something to do with the color of their feathers.

There was a little indoor play area for kids -- Evan loved the little bongo drums.

There's also a carousel at the zoo (also indoors -- probably keeps the rain out on most days but we were glad for the shade this day) and Brooklyn wanted to be brave and ride a horse that moved up and down.

It was Evan's first time on the carousel and he wasn't really into the whole sitting on a horse thing so he and his mommy settled for a nice bench.

Brooklyn wasn't a big fan of the snakes... unless they had cool stripes or colors.

On our way out we saw that the penguins had a visitor (or two). Word must be getting out about the free food and fancy swimming pool.

This isn't at the zoo, but the way this kid eats sometimes...

Sidewalk chalk is serious business.

It's not easy being a kid during the summer.

One of Austin's friends from work had an extra ticket to see Sufjan Stevens play a show in Seattle -- two thumbs up.

Brooklyn and one of her friends decided that they were "going on a trip to Utah" -- what you can't see are the chairs in front positioned like the driver and passenger seats of a car. Brooklyn looks like she'll be taking after both her parents with a tendency to overpack for a trip :D

Laura helped do a baby shower for a friend at our place -- she spent lots of time finding the right colors and decorations and treats and it turned out great!

She may have enlisted the help of a certain designer in the family for a quick quote to frame for the candy table ;)

June was such a crazy month that we forgot to watch the traditional birthday video on Evan's big day -- better late than never!

Evan went from walking to dunking pretty quickly. Dad approves.

Evan had a blast -- he brought home more dirt than strawberries.

Who says you can't look fabulous when you pick berries?

Speaking of fabulous, someone is pretty excited about her new dance class!

And speaking about excited -- Brooklyn was pretty happy about this project that she made at preschool -- the "cake" is an upside down paper bowl, the "frosting" is some kind of dyed shaving cream, and the "candles" are cut straws. She loves projects and crafts!
