before leaving for california to spend christmas with laura's family, we were able to see jenna and ty and carter. carter loved the puzzle and stacking set we got him and it was fun to see him running around, dancing, and throwing/shooting any ball within sight.
it was great to visit our family in california -- mary and chase and livia came down from san francisco so the whole family could be together for the holiday (minus jon who is serving a mission and talked to us via phone).

like many families do on christmas eve, we had our own little nativity pageant. since mary has their second baby on the way, her role was an obvious choice. when asked if she would like to be a wise man or a shepherd, livia said she would be a ballerina. we then convinced her that maybe she could be a sheep who brought presents to the baby jesus.

lots of stockings, old and new, waiting for santa to fill them with treats!

this was our fourth christmas together: one when we were engaged, and three since we've been married. we love winter and its holidays.

livia was fun to watch on christmas day -- one of her favorite presents was the doctor set to her left.

austin did some sneaky behind-the-scenes shopping via his mom and sister to get laura the wii that she secretly wanted.

one of austin's favorite past christmas gifts was his nike byu basketball shorts (no surprise he's wearing them in this photo) and the nike ohio state shorts laura gave him this year are already a new favorite.
we've loved spending time with both sides of the family. we're hoping to supplement a slightly-shorter-than-we-would-have-liked california visit with a return visit this spring. we were very glad we got to see jenna, ty, and carter for a few days in provo. we loved gifts we were given and really enjoyed picking gifts for others.
we're excited to start a new year and hope to fill it with lots of wonderful experiences.
