brooklyn's birthday, part 2

So it turns out that Brooklyn was terrified of the bows on the presents. Really. But once we helped her overcome that fear a little bit, she enjoyed opening the presents.

We underestimated how long it would take to open presents because she wanted to enjoy them right away! So we took a quick break and went for a walk to eat lunch and feed the ducks.

Squirrel!

Best photo of the day. Period.

Second best photo of the day.

Third best. What a cute birthday girl!

What you can't see in this photo are the dozens of ducks just to the bottom and right of the camera frame that are getting ready to swarm Laura and Brooklyn for the bread that we brought.

Brooklyn's friend James came over to give her a couple birthday gifts! What a good buddy!

We also got her favorite treat -- Jamba Juice!

Speaking of treats, we got on Skype with family in California and Arizona so they could see Brooklyn try birthday cake for the first time.

We did cute little cupcakes and found a cute pink candle.

Aaaand... this is not quite the reaction we thought we'd get. Between the scary candle and not getting an afternoon nap, Brooklyn decided cake was pretty much in the same category as bows on presents and fuzzy rubber caterpillars and kept trying to escape from her high chair. Oh well.

We opened some more presents before bedtime. How many little kids enjoy the cards as much as the gifts? Pretty impressive.

The quintessential stacking ring set.

The last present of the day was a handmade quiet book from Aunt Jenna -- what a treat!

We had a great day with our little girl. It was fun to make the whole day just about her and enjoy spending time together. We enjoyed seeing and/or talking with family and friends throughout the day and would like to thank everyone who helped us spoil her rotten with cute and thoughtful gifts!

Super hard to believe B is already a one-year-old. We have loved watching her grow up so fast! At this rate, Daddy is already getting nervous about handing over the car keys and meeting boyfriends... :/

P.S... I am dying to see the video Austin made. I couldn't figure out how to get it to work. I need the expertise of Aaron.

Thank you for sharing part of her birthday with us! It was so fun to see her afraid of her cupcake! She is adorable and REAL!
