perry and jon, part 1

We are finally catching up on our blog. We had some visitors at the end of August! Perry came up to visit us from California, and Jon came up from Utah -- it had been over a year since we had family come stay with us so we were very excited!

Austin took a couple days off work for a "staycation." After we picked Perry and Jon up on Thursday (their flights came in around the same time) we headed straight for...

...Mt Rainier. It's hard to miss but is a further drive out than it seems!

We were treated to some spectacular views along the way...

...and stopped to take some photos with us in them as well.

We drove to Paradise -- the main visitor destination in the national park.

Brooklyn was a good (and very cute) traveler.

It was a beautiful view in any direction -- we saw a couple climbers on one of the other peaks from a telescope in the visitors center.

Someone's peeking!

There were even some nice waterfalls up in the Paradise meadows as well.

It felt great to be up in the mountain air with the trees and grass and streams.

We hadn't been to Rainier before and we loved sharing it with Perry and Jon.

Backpack buddies!

Brooklyn was very excited to have visitors -- she even helped Perry bring his luggage to "Brooklyn's house."

Friday morning we went on a harbor cruise -- something else we hadn't done yet but wanted to try. We have no shame in being tourists in our own backyard! It's a staycation!

It was a little overcast...

...and a little windy.

Brooklyn was a happy camper once we got her jacket on.

We had been hoping for some of the beautiful sunny weather we'd had earlier in the week...

...but if you want the authentic Seattle skyline, you need the clouds too. :)

Brooklyn loved seeing other boats and -- most importantly -- the "space beetle."

We wandered through the Pike Place Market a bit -- we'd all been there before (Perry and Jon had gone briefly last year when Laura's family visited) but it was fun to experience it again.

Perry treated us to lunch at Ivar's -- a local seafood chain that we hadn't tried before.

It was tasty!

Just a little over a year ago, our family hiked Mt. Rainier as well! It was so beautiful, and like you guys, we got some great family photos.
