It should come as no surprise that we have some catching up to do on our blog. We took a trip to Arizona to see Austin's parents over New Year's. We left really really really early in the morning on New Year's Eve.
Someone was very excited to have her own seat. And seatbelt.
Grandma was waiting outside our terminal and Brooklyn ran to go see her -- they are good buddies!
Early starts mean tired little girls.
We left gray skies and temperatures in the 40s and arrived to temperatures in the 70s and ripe oranges in the back yard!
Looks like our Seattle girl isn't used to seeing sunshine very much!
Austin wasted no time in finding the guitar and picking some tunes out on the patio.
Grandpa got a remote-control ball for Christmas that Brooklyn loved watching.
"Mack!" (not only does it look like the Cars character, but it's a McDonalds semi truck with a Big Mac on the side so she was right in more ways than one!)
We made crowns to wear for our little New Year's party.
Grandpa taught B how to do thumbs up!
Someone is apparently not very excited about 2014.
Or maybe she just needed Grandma and Grandpa.
As if the day wasn't exciting enough, there were Christmas presents waiting under the tree for us.
One of the hits was a cute little pug doll from Breanna.
The morning of New Year's Grandma and Grandpa had some missionary meetings, so we went to find a park. Again, Brooklyn wasn't sure what to think of all this sunshine business.
We had a great time playing on the playground...
...and finding some "poky pactus."
That night Austin and his dad went to the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale. It was a very entertaining game -- and a different experience being at a college football game where one of the teams wasn't wearing blue and white with a 'Y' on their helmets!
Back at home Brooklyn got spoiled with lots of Grandma time. She loved reading stories together.
The next day we got ready to go to the zoo.
But Brooklyn had fun playing with our own adorable animal -- our fluffy family kitty Addie.
It was 70 degrees and sunny -- perfect day to be at the Phoenix Zoo.
Brooklyn loved these meerkat statues -- she was very sad when we had to keep going.
Part of the zoo has a farm. We got there too late for the petting zoo last time so we went there first.
Brooklyn wasn't quite sure what to think of all the animals.
Behind the petting zoo there was a cute rabbit that kept jumping up and peeking over the fence!
The only thing that would make this photo any cuter is a cowgirl hat.
Brooklyn insisted on pushing her doll in the stroller much of the day.
She wasn't quite sure what to think of the turkeys. Not quite as cute as the little chickens.
Giddyup!
We didn't take many photos of the animals since we've documented the Phoenix Zoo pretty well before, but this big tortoise was great.
Grandma wins a prize for completing a carousel ride in which Brooklyn doesn't (a) end up on a bench instead of an animal and/or (b) end up in tears.
We always get a family photo by the giraffes because it was Brooklyn's favorite toy as a baby.
Our last stop is our favorite part of the zoo -- there's an area where you can walk around with all the squirrel monkeys climbing the trees around you. Brooklyn wasn't sure what to think but she liked it in the end.
On the way home we stopped to see the Gilbert Temple, which was nearly complete. Then we went to Waldo's for some tasty authentic Mexican tacos!
